Needless to say, I'm astounded by this "Little Diva", as Miss Britney Spears refers to Carly Rose Sonnenclar. At just 13, she walked out and astounded Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato, and of course, Britney with an astonishing rendition of Nina Simone's "I'm Feeling Good" (http://bit.ly/WDZ0Sc)
From the X-Factor Biopic of Carly: "Carly Rose Sonenclar started singing when she was only 2-years-old - and Simon Cowell factored in her life even back then! "My parents have videotapes of me pretending to be on American Idol and my brother, Russell, made believe he was Simon with the British accent and everything," she says. When Carly was five, she started taking singing lessons and she adds, "I also had a karaoke machine and I would play with it with all of my friends. I sang a lot of Kelly Clarkson songs like 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and 'Gone.'"
Carly, who is one of Britney Spears' Teens, first started singing professionally at age seven in the Off-Broadway show, The Night of the Hunter. Later, she appeared in the Broadway production of Les Miserables and in 2009, played Carrie in the national tour of Little House on the Prairie: The Musical. Carly's credits also include the Broadway show Wonderland and the PBS TV series The Electric Company.
Recently, the young singer has been pursuing her solo music career, performing at Birdland Jazz Club in New York and writing her own songs. She says, "I want to bring the soul back to pop. My record would be a mix of those two genres because I think that is something that is not really out there right now. I could fill that gap and appeal to a wide range of ages. I think I have the X factor because I have a uniquely mature sound and style for my age."
At this point, it's almost impossible for the rest of the top ten to even compete with Carly. She is so beyond the pack, it's pretty much a "shoo-in" for her to win.
There hasn't been a Phenom in Music like Carly for decades. They need to simply sign her, get some top talent to work with her, to help her write, develop her repertory, arrange record and get her out to the world. she crosses all genres, she could be THE "It Girl" of the first half of this century.
At this point, they really need to declare a second winner, as to not give Carly a "win" at this point, could honestly bring the ire of the Fan-base down on the show. Truthfully, the rest of the top ten in the competition are stellar Performers who have more than shown they have a rightful place in the X-Factor.
Her family's support is stellar, as well, and should not be overlooked. There is a LOT of talent out there, and sadly, it's often swept aside or held back by those well-meaning people who ALWAYS seem to "know better" and feel it's for a child's best interests to convince them they should turn their dreams into "hobbies", if even that.
This young Diva, and maybe especially this song, show us that those dreams CAN come true. This is the Video in the Link above: http://bit.ly/WDZbgC This is likely one of the most done songs of all times. Originally as part of the soundtrack of "The Wizard of OZ", it made young Judy Garland, also a young ingenue at the time, a voice for the ages. Her version of the song has endured for generations as the standard all others are compared to.
Miss Sonnenclar may have set some new standards. As L.A. Reid suggested, "She's a force of Nature.
