There's a war going on...right here in the US. A recent Op-Ed Piece in "The Truth About Trade & Technology" suggested, in regard GMO Labeling, we should "shut up and eat what's been made available", that there is NO Democracy in Food-Not Now-Not Ever.
Crazy me, but this sounds like the insane rantings of old King George back in Revolutionary days. The Empire just wanted us to be content to have the Culture, Goods, Order and Protection of the Crown-without all that complaint about "No Taxation Without Representation" and such.
Now some might not see the parallel. The big Bio-Tech firms want us to subsidize the Farmers they conned into growing this stuff, then take OUR hard-earned monies and PAY for it without having knowledge of what we're getting-nay, without any voice in whether we should even be "privileged" to have that information legally.
People who want such things have been referred to as being "Label Happy".
How cheeky of us.
WE DARE to question the unbridled hegemony of our Corporations working with the Government they've owned for decades-we DARE complain and not just gratefully accept the "bounty" they've graciously prepared for us. (And through the Subsidies in the Farm Bill and the Sales in the Marketplace continue to line their bursting pockets.)
The Ballot initiative IS in California, but the impact concerns us all-and it's NOT just about knowing whether there's GM Materials in our food, but whether we, as tax payers, have the right to know the truth about trade and technology, and whether our voice has a choice.
